Typically, there is wide range of wire diameter(from tiny to large) used on suspension springs with the same functions in principle. For examples, the large diameter springs we think it as the ordinary suspension springs which used in railway and big machine industries. Meanwhile for the springs with tiny wire springs we also take them as suspension springs on function. Based on our traditional knowledge, The only differences between them is that the springs with tiny wire diameter was named compression springs while the springs with large wire diameter (above 3mm or 4mm) we called suspension springs.
Generally speaking, There were two kinds of coiling processes that is cold coiled springs and hot coiled springs
1. Cold coiled: The cold coiled process will be adopted for the springs with wire diameter less than 8mm. The springs will be cold drawn and the spring material (senior carton wire) will be pre-heat treated under this condition. Quenched treatment is not necessary after coiled, Only the temper will be done in low temperature to relieve the stress while coiling.
2. Hot coiled: The hot coiled process will be adopted for the springs with wire diameter above 8mm. Some treatments including Quenched and temper in middle temperature is necessary after coiled.
The following production process is for the ordinary compression springs.
Coiling, Stress relieving, End grinding, (shot- peen), (adjustin), (stress relieving), Setting&Prestressing, Inspecting, Surface treatment, Packaging.
The chrome silicon steel was commonly used as the material of suspension springs, they need to be shot peened and painted&coated with different color to show the distinguishment.
